Halle Michaels is on the brink of insanity.
She’s haunted by dreams. Dreams that find their way into her reality. Nightmares of death…of destruction. Visions that will uncover the truth – about her abilities, her family’s origins, and her part in a prophecy that could change the world.
But when a mysterious book shows up on her doorstep, can those dreams save her from an overwhelming evil? One that has its sights set on Halle.
She wanted normal, but normal is overrated. She was born to be so much more.

Matt laughed and picked up his glass to finish off his tea, but his laughter stopped as quickly as it started. His glare focused abruptly on the café entrance. Halle turned to glance over her shoulder at a group of guys she recognized from school, mostly football players. One stood out. That explained it.
Brandt Lucas.
Even now, almost two years later, Halle nor Jenna knew what had gone down between the two. Matt and Brandt had been through a few run-ins since sophomore year. The consensus was it had started over a girl, but there was never any solid proof and Matt would never talk about it. The most Halle had ever gotten out of him was a grunt or a brush off of the subject. She stopped trying about halfway through junior year.
“Boys.” Jenna scoffed in Halle’s direction, knowing Matt wasn’t paying attention to anything she said at the moment. Halle just rolled her eyes slightly and shook her head. There would be no use in even trying to talk to Matt for a good fifteen minutes.
Matt motioned to get the waitress’ attention and requested the check.
“I think it’s time for that swim.” His voice was a low growl. If simply glaring in the direction of Brandt Lucas would have laid him out on the floor, people would have been splashing cold water on his face. “I need to cool off.”
Matt was already standing by his chair when the waitress brought the check. He handed her several bills, told her to keep the change, then headed for the stairs. Halle and Jenna never said a word. They knew this mood. It was not a talking mood.
Thinking ahead, Jenna was clever enough to make sure she was a buffer between Matt and Brandt as they headed for the exit.
Aedan and Sapphira followed.
“I’ll meet you back at the safe house. I have a stop to make.” Sapphira didn’t allow Aedan time to ask questions. She traced out of the café.
Matt and Jenna were through the front door when Halle stopped dead still, a few feet short of the door. Ice trailed down her spine and a faint, sinister voice spilled through the air. “She’s the one.” Her gaze drifted back around the café, slowly and methodically. Surely she wasn’t the only one who heard that?
She wasn’t.
Aedan didn’t recognize the voice he heard, but he did recognize the distinctive bile that emanated from it. His quick, desperate check of the surroundings tried to pinpoint the origin. No luck. It was a familiar feeling he wished wasn’t so familiar.
He watched as Halle’s aura changed to a deep shade of orange. Fear. Was Sapphira right? Had she heard it too? He leaned close to her and whispered into her thoughts. “Keep walking. Don’t look back.”
She did…

They say a good book can change your life. For Halle Michaels, it might just end it.

Now, forced to confront a past filled with mysteries and deceptions, Halle realizes the book not only holds the key to uncovering these secrets, but has the power to destroy everything.

He was standing entirely too close. Halle could feel the electricity dance across her skin. Every instinct in her wanted to take a step back; she took one forward instead.
“You. Obviously.” Her heart skidded and scrambled inside her chest.
He lingered a few moments, evaluating her reaction, savoring her indignation. The quickening of her pulse brought a smile to his face, one that held a hint of masculine satisfaction. He took another step closer. “Well, Halle, you could always stop dreaming about me, you know.”
Her name sounded different on his tongue. She bit down on her lower lip, held her breath, and waited. When he took another step, closing what was left of the gap between them, she narrowed her eyes and peered up at him. He was close enough that she felt the warmth of his shallow breathing on her skin.
“I can’t.” She whispered.
Aedan felt a binding sense of truth in her words. He searched her eyes. What he saw, he knew would haunt his soul forever. He pulled back, his breath seesawing in his chest.
The hint of confusion in his blue gaze compelled her to explain. “I don’t have any control over my dreams.” She said softly. “They just take over.”
Her stare fell to the floor. “They even seem to be taking over my reality too.”
Aedan had suspected that after the incident in the park. He had no way of knowing how often it happened, but he had seen enough of Halle’s dreams to know she might not survive the ending that never arrived in some of them. She lifted her gaze to meet his, blinking back tears. At that moment, it no longer mattered whose side she was on. The idea of a world without her wasn’t a possibility he was willing to allow….

~ ABOUT THE AUTHOR ~
Bridgette O’Hare
Bridgette O’Hare is a writerly life form evolved to live off of high doses of chocolate, excessive episodes of Once Upon a Time, and copious amounts of snark.
She spends her time in search of sleep, witty co-conspirators, the planet Gallifrey, and ways to unleash evil upon her characters in interesting ways. When she’s not torturing imaginary people, you can find her instigating questionable conversations on Facebook.
She is the ridiculously proud co-creator of two awesome male human beings with ambitions of being a crazy cat lady if her pursuit of marrying Chris Hemsworth proves futile.

Review: The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness
Five Stars!
I became a Deborah Harkness fan with A Discovery of Witches. I remember hearing that it was “vampire novel for adults” so I gave it a try. It’s not your typical vampire/witch series. It’s very intellectual and thoughtful, and I loved it. I’m pretty much a sucker for any plot that involves a mysterious, magical book and hidden symbols (a la The Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning, and The DaVinci Code). A Discovery of Witches (book 1) didn’t disappoint, but book 2 did.
Shadow of Night almost lost me. Diana and Matthew travel back in time. Almost the entire book seemed like an excuse for Deborah Harkness to espouse her incredibly deep and impressive knowledge of English history and daily life in the 1500s. There was minimal magic and mystery, and it seemed the series had stalled a bit.
When book 3 came out, I decided to give it a shot since I was invested in the series at that point, and I am so glad I did! Deborah Harkness earned back my devotion and enthusiasm. A Discovery of Witches was the best of the series. I was completely hooked and hated to see it end. Diana really came into her magic and finally demonstrated why she was so special. There was a lot of action, mysteries were raised and resolved, characters were further developed with full back stories, and I was on the edge of my seat most of the time.
It was still quite cerebral (which I like), but the characters and the story were front and center with the science and history driving the plot, rather than being the plot. For anyone who may be in doubt after book 2, I would strongly encourage you to return for book 3. It was amazing!
